May-egg Mornings: Mayonnaise and Egg Hair Treatment
Per request, here is instructions on the Mayonnaise and Egg Hair Treatment I did this morning. There are few variations of how people do it, but I do it this way. I must warn you, this can get pretty messy and it doesn’t smell too great. But, it really does work! It’s great for sealing split ends and restoring shine. Well, let me know how it works for you.
- Shampoo your hair and comb out the tangles.
- Loosely wrap your hair in a towel
- Mix approx. ½-1 cup of mayonnaise and 2-3 eggs. (Lean toward organic brands of mayonnaise. You can also add a teaspoon of olive oil or honey. That’s up to you… it will work without it. OR, you may also consider using “Hair Mayonnaise” by Organic Root Stimulator instead of making your own mix. You can also an extra egg to that product to boost the conditioning power, if you wish.)
- Apply the May-eggs (lol) in small amounts throughout your hair.
- Once you feel like it’s evenly distributed, put your hair in a shower cap. You may want to use 2 or 3 caps to contain the drip-age. Have paper towels handy so you can wipe any of the May-eggs that escape the shower cap.
- Let it sit for 30mins. You may also sit under a hair dryer if you like.
- After your time is up, rinse out the May-eggs and shampoo your hair. (If you rinse well before shampooing, you’ll only need to shampoo once. But if you feel like you haven’t washed it all out, feel free to shampoo again.)
- Towel dry and style as usual.
- Enjoy your beautiful lustrous hair =)
I’m a big fan of leave in conditioners so that’s my go-to, especially after a hair treatment. You don’t want undo everything you just did by putting harsh products in your hair immediately after. I use Cantu Shea Butter products or Motions Hair Lotion.

Charm LaDonna
Last night, Charm LaDonna was featured on Dancing with the Stars as the AT&T Spotlight Performance. Before her performance, DTWS provided a clip of Charm’s journey as dancer and a humble account of her successes. From a 3 year-old girl’s dream of becoming a dancer to a world tour with Madonna to college (UCLA) and back to the community to pass on the support to other young dancers. Her story has shown to be quite touching and inspiring to those who watched. Charm is an amazing dancer and an even more a amazing woman! If you were impressed by this 4 minute and 46 second clip, you got to keeping watching for her because you haven’t seen anything yet!!

A Promise for Me… and You
Not too long ago, I used to live life feeling like I was the sacrifice for others, often being left with the shorter end of the stick so to speak. Then one day it dawned on me… I have to set the example for how I want others to treat me. How can I complain about others putting me last if I always put myself last too? In a life where there were always more important things to focus on than self interest, it was hard to turn my attention inward and on to myself. It was quite a process learning how to give in to the things that make me happy and say no to the things that make me anything less than happy. I have my best friend, Charmaine to thank for guiding me through this transition.
Today, I find that my goal is simply BALANCE. I aim to maintain balance of energy, time, and effort. I’m thankful that I learned how to treat myself, but in that, I never want to forget how to treat others. I always liked the fact that was generous and kind to people… I just didn’t like the fact that it was at my expense.
Below is list of promises. My friend, Laily, shared this me when I was feeling down and it really helped. I particularly like this list because it reminds you to treat yourself well in addition to wishing well for others. Hope you like it too…

Anniversary of an Angel
Y
esterday marked the death anniversary of my friend and big brother, Nick Nowell. Although it has been six long years since Nick left, he is still held high on petisitles within many of our hearts. As a popular and well admired young person, Nick influenced many lives both before and after he earned his wings. His goofy, energetic, and playful personality could make anyone smile. There were no real bad days when Nick was around… even in the mist of your angry rant, Nick would find a way to make you stop and laugh. I could never think about him or even say his name without a grin taking over my face.
I remember Nick would ask me to borrow a dollar every single day. Then one day I decided to question him. I sat on top of a lunch table under the pergola in the middle of John Muir’s campus. I looked up at Nick and said, “Dang, why are you always asking me for a dollar?” Nick replied confidently as if it were common sense, “Because you always have one” and then he laughed. I laughed too, reached in my purse, and handed him another dollar… That was Nick for you.
People say it all the time and it really is true. After you lose someone, the little memories become so big… Like driving by the McDonalds on the corner of Lincoln and Woodberry on summer days when I’d see Nick and the love of his life, Tookie Morris, walking through the parking lot. My sister and I would scream their names out of the car window as my dad honked the horn. Nick and Tookie would turn around, yell back, and give us a big wave. I still remember how special I felt and how proud I was to call them my friends… to call them my family.
Or how about the time Nick’s picture was printed in the Eastbay catalog and all the girls at school were asking for autograph. That was the same day he had given me a copy of his zed-card. I decided to ask Nick to sign my card too, but he refused and asked “for what?” I explained, “Incase we ever lose contact or something, I’ll always have it in my scrapbook.” Nick brushed me off and replied, “Girl please, I’ll never leave you. You’re my little sis… I’ma always be here.” I was disappointed and happy at the same time. I still have that zed-card framed and unsigned.
Nick’s life and sudden death affected many people, including me. It taught me one of the great laws of life – Tomorrow Isn’t Promised. I quickly learned to value the people around me and the moments I shared with them. I grew to be very careful about my actions and my words. Because of Nick, I have little to no regrets about those that I’ve lost after him… including my father. I love Nick for who he was in my life and for being a friend when I had few; but even more, I love Nick for all that he has helped me become.
Nicky, your purity, innocence, positivity, and charm has left quite an imprint on this world. I pray you are happy and at peace dancing among angels. I love you.
